Wild Week

Lately, my life and everyone around me’s life has been completely out of control wild. We are all jumping from one insane event to the next. My Mom has been in and out of the hospital lately having problems with her heart resulting in a triple bypass. I fell and hit my head on the tub, went to the ER, and got a concussion. Work’s been nuts. That’s not even mentioning the fact that we went to Las Vegas, Kristyn finished her first year of her PhD, and we opened up the trailer last weekend. This isn’t even all of it. Oh AND?! Our car got stolen, then found, and we had to pay around $300 to get it out of impound. Point being that Momma is BUSY and TIRED. (I’m the “Momma” in this scenario.) Here are a few pictures recent pictures of these events:

The above is me at the ER after I fell. The entire day before, we’d spent in the ER with my Mom and the nurse had told me that she’s had people fall and not report it and die. Then the next day I fell and hit my head HARD. I felt kind of fine / kind of suspicious so of course I had to go. Ugh.

Here we are after getting our car out of hock. We’re smiling because we got it back and also because it’s the SECOND time that this exact same car has been stolen and returned to us.

The above and below pictures are on Mother’s Day. My family took a spur-of-the-moment trip to Michael’s Craft Store after eating brunch and realized we hadn’t taken any nice pictures together. We had to leave to go to Kristyn’s family’s house so we took this one in the aisle, LOL. Gorgeous family portrait.

Also, we forgot to take a photo with everyone in Kristyn’s family together before some people left so as we were walking out the door, we took this quick use. Another beautiful family portrait!

Last weekend we went Upstate for the first time in 2018. It rained and we slept all weekend except for literally this minute just before we left.

This is just Shirley sleeping on me and being a lunatic.

This is me and Kristyn in the ER again with my Mother. She was there to be admitted and we were goofing around. We took more goofy pictures too. Don’t let the fact that we were selfie-ing fool you into thinking it wasn’t a serious situation. It was but we handle serious situations with goofiness and this beautiful background was the partition curtain in my Mom’s room, ha.

the above picture we took after we found out that Mom’s surgery went well. We were jolly because of the weight lifted and all leaving for the day after being at the hospital since the morning. This bag that my Dad is holding up has my Mom’s initial “D” on it. She kept calling it “the D bag” as in “Can you hand me my D bag?” and it kept making us laugh. So here we all are the D bag.

We do find a way to enjoy ourselves but man I could sleep for a thousand years haha.

Independence Day

July 4th Weekend 1

Kristyn and Baby Shirley hugging in the yard on Saturday.

This weekend was the weirdest Fourth of July weekend I’ve had in a while. We had intended on going upstate but at the end of last week, we really didn’t feel like packing up and driving all the way up there. Instead, it seemed really enticing to use that nervous energy to “do us” by staying home, reading, relaxing, fixing up the apartment, and playing with the animals. We had intended to paint the living room but we kept pushing that off until it was crystal clear to us that neither of us had any intention of actually painting that damn room. What we did do, however, was re-organize the “dining room” so now it is an “art studio and gym”. Basically, we moved all our art supplies, “how-to” books, and graphic novels (for inspiration) to the dining room hutch. The stuff that was on the hutch got put into a box OR re-distributed to the study. Basically, we just re-allocated that space for something useful. I’ve been using that room as a dumping ground for all my stupid clothes. I think we’ve eaten at that table a grand total of one time since we’ve had it. I’m excited to be able to use it for art.

July 4th weekend 2

Kristyn holding Monster and Shirley against their will with love but everyone’s also sort of into it.

This was such a relaxing weekend though. Part of me is regretful that we didn’t go upstate. I’m absolutely aching to do up there and relax. However, I know that had we gone, it would have been awesome and I would have been so glad that we went BUT we would’ve had so much work to do ahead of it and after it that it would have partially ruined my week. I have a long, weird week ahead of me. The next one is even tougher. I am starting to realize that when I know I’m going to have a tough week (let alone two), it’s necessary for me to be a little gentle with myself around that week. This should be common sense but I have a tendency to be like “GO GO GO” and then I tire myself the hell out. And if I’m not like that, Kristyn is. In short, we’re crazy.

I read from a bunch of books this weekend. I finished one; Lucy Knisley’s Make Yourself Happy. I started a new blog and social media presence to go with it. It’s focused on a subject that I want to learn more about. I won’t share it for now because I don’t want to have these blogs linked up although they kind of are because I’m writing them with the same alias like an idiot. I also slept in all weekend and took a day nap on Saturday and Sunday. I ate ice cream, pizza, and Chinese food. I watched the entirety of Girls, season 5. I watched almost all of Veep, season 4 (even though I realized later that I’d already watched this season). We watched some Bob’s Burgers and Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone. I crocheted part of a blanket that’s been a work in progress for like two summers now. Kristyn drew a picture of Shirley and I drew one of Monster. Both of these will be turned into paintings. I researched schools and maybe came up with a new, exciting plan for myself. I exercised, cleaned, re-organized, and chilled. We also watched our town’s fireworks display from our kitchen window while marching in place to get our FitBit steps. Oh AND, we drank a lot of Captain Morgan Coconut Rum with Black Cherry Schwepp’s seltzer. I even took some pictures with the DSLR, which I haven’t done on a long time. They are “before” pictures of the living room. Once we repaint and redo that room, I’ll share them. Other than that, I’m a weirdo who didn’t even take one selfie during the entire weekend. The pictures I attached above are really the only ones that show our weekend. It was literally that chill.

Okay, gotta GTFO.

We are volunteering at the GLAAD Media Awards tonight and are so goddamn excited! (GLAAD = Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation). Click on that link to see why. So many awesome people are gonna be there. I am so glad we’re in LA for this one because I would be pissed if we weren’t, haha.

God I love volunteering for this event guys. Not only is it a great cause, the people are great AND you get to peep some awesome gay-positive celebs. Such a fun night. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a LOT of work but so worth it.

OMG last year when we got home, the cats were outside! They had knocked out the front window (bc the screen wasn’t secure) and jumped out! We found Elvira right away. A) She hadn’t left the courtyard, B) We saw her white fur in the dark.

Monster, on the other hand, left the courtyard and was hiding in the bushes in the front. We were terrified. Crying, calling out to him. We thought we were gonna find him in the street. But then Kristyn heard a rustle and there he was: TERRIFIED. He was hiding from us. Well moreso just frozen with fear. She grabbed him and we went in and cried and hugged them for a while and then went to bed.

WELL, just a little while ago, I was holding Monster and decided to step out the front door into the courtyard to grab something. Suddenly that memory flooded back and I was like, “Maybe today isn’t the best day to get Monster interested in the great outdoors.”

Anyway, we’re getting ready now. SO EXCITING!!!

Here’s Kristyn’s post on the GLAAD Media Awards from last year:

And here’s mine:

Wish us luck!

Day Ninety-five

Yesterday we had a pretty full morning. I don’t know why but I woke up at 8:30am and couldn’t go back to sleep. We got up relatively early and had brekky (facon, avocado and cheese on French bread with coffee). We listened to records and Kristyn made some CDs for a coworker, then had to go to work. I spent the day working on a tippy top secret project and watching Roseanne.

Also, look at these pictures that Kristyn took of Monster!!! Adorable!

Day Ninety-four

Kristyn doesn’t want to play this game anymore so she’s digging in her heels but you’ve still got me!

Anyway, yesterday I ran some errands and Kristyn worked 11-9. I went to the bank, to the goodwill (to look around, I bought a few skirts to alter) and grocery shopping. Look at that vending machine of whoopie cushions and stuff!

Oh AND our friend Vanessa sent us that Dr. Mario plaque! She made it!!! She makes awesome things out of these little beads and she knows we like Dr. Mario so BOOM! She also sent us cookies, a Christmas card and a candy cane (haha) and a letter. Thank you Vanessa!!!! We love it!!!

Then I went to get Krissy and we came home, had some coffee and ice cream then some blueberry beers. We watched Saturday Night Live on Netflix Instant and fell asleep on the couch. Good day!

P.S. Oh also we listened to Traditional Scottish Fiddle Music.

Uh Oh

My back just spasmed and it hurts a LOT. It’s nowhere near as bad as the last one though thank gawd. I just limped slowly into the bathroom, took an old Skelaxin, 800mg of Ibuprofin and slathered IcyHot on THICK.

The IcyHot is making Elvira into a basketcase. She loves “smells”. Makeup, shampoo, lotion, body powder, nail polish and…I guess IcyHot. It’s like catnip for her. She starts rolling around, rubbing herself on things and drooling. It’s adorable and weird. And my catnip is starting to work too. Haha. *zone out*

Raunchy Oprah

There's no part of this picture I don't love.

Lately I’ve been having really vivid dreams. Last night I had this really long dream where I went to a garage sale in someone’s house. I went to buy two dresses and the family that was running the sale was really cool and friendly. The dresses were really pretty vintage dresses from the 60’s and about my size. One had a little stain on it. When I went to pay, the woman kind of wouldn’t let me leave. She wouldn’t let me pay and took one of the dresses from me. I said, “Fine if you don’t want to sell it, that’s cool, just let me pay for the other one.” She took my money but held onto one of the dresses and wouldn’t give me change. I had to get out of there because I needed to go to work. I had intended to go to the garage sale, come home, shower and then go to work. It was already past the time I was supposed to be at work, so I was like, “Fine I’m going.” Then she gave me the dress and I left.

I guess I didn’t care about my job because I decided to keep shopping. I walked down a main drag which I think was Kearny Ave and went into a shop. Inside there were all these 60’s Go Go dancers and it was decorated like Laugh In inside. It was a furniture store. It was pretty cool in there so I decided to look for bedsheets. When I got to that section, Oprah was there hosting some kind of event sale. She started talking to me and was REAL raunchy. Talking about how she always has safe sex and kind of just being the Oprah you NEVER get to see. I was so riveted but still kind of distractedly looking for bedsheets. Midway through talking to her, I realized that I knew she was gonna be there because I WORKED there. Her sleeve came up a little and she had a tattoo on her forearm. That was when my boss came up. I guess he forgot I had to work OR thought I was there to work OR was caught up in the excitement of Raunchy Oprah being there because he didn’t seem to notice or care that I’d mistakenly blown off my shift. I was trying to figure out what to do next when Kristyn bellowed:

COLEEN!!!!! WAKE!!!!! UP!!!!!

Then I told her the entire convoluted story and she barely pretended to pay attention though she’s told me some whoppers of convoluted stories in the past. Haha.

Anyway, here is my favorite YouTube Oprah video. This shit never gets old for me. Also, how do you work for OWN? I want to work for Oprah.

The Jerri Blank Chronicles

Guys, I realized today that when I start school in the fall, I will turn into Jerri Blank.  Before I get into that, let me tell you what my plans are.

Day Thirty-three

First I wanna say:

Happy Birthday Kristyn’s Momma!

Next I wanna say:

We are having a pretty good day although it’s almost time for bed. As part of “Coleen’s all better now time to get back in the swing of things” week, I have a full load of things to do tomorrow. INCLUDING a job interview. Wish me luck!

We woke up kinda early this morning and laid in bed reading stuff and playing with los gatos until we were good and ready to get up. Then we had breakfast, Kristyn fooled around with iTunes, I taught myself two new crocheting stitches, talked on the phone with Kristyn’s parents and played Harry Potter Lego.

We’re now trying to print some stuff but the computer is slow and it’s making us bananers.

* Regarding my picture above, Kristyn asked me if it was a misguided duckface. Alas it was just a boring old “cross-eyes tongue out” face that went seriously awry (my eyes are not even crossed and you cannot see my tongue). I sure wish it was an attempt at a misguided duckface though. *sigh* She gives me too much credit.

Day Thirty-two

I knew I was gonna forget to post this before I went to sleep last night and I did like a dummy.

Yesterday was a much better day. I got out of the house for a bit and went to Amoeba to get a replacement needle for our record player. Turns out they were out of stock. It was refreshing to be outside though and to drive around LA. I haven’t been outside of the house for a while.

Here I am looking blotchy bc I had probably just been picking at my face. I’m awesome what can you say?

And I forgot to take a picture of Lil Krissy yesterday so here’s one from just a second ago. Isn’t she lovely?

This picture is kind of dark but man was it nice to see those palm trees?

Also we are not in my sister’s wedding anymore. It’s not what we wanted and are upset about it. I don’t want to talk about it but I don’t want there to be any whispering about it either. So you heard it here first. It’s a shitty situation but it’s one can’t be resolved. It just is what it is and we wish them the absolute best!
