Hi everyone, my name is Coleen. I got the moniker “Buberella” when I was a teenager from an imaginative friend. There is an origin story there and maybe I’ll write about it some day but not this day!
I am a 30-something woman in New Jersey who is gay married to the love of her life, Kristyn. We are busy gals who are forever taking on too much. A defining characteristic of us both is “blind optimism”. There is nothing that we aren’t positive that we can’t accomplish except for having the entire apartment totally clean at one time. That’s just not possible. We have three cats (Monster, Elvira, and Giles) and one puppy (Shirley Jackson). We have a camper in the Catskill Mountains. We’re also really into comedy.
What kind of blog is this, anyway?
This has always been a personal blog. To a degree, I think it always will be. I enjoy writing about my life. That said, I’d like to use this space to talk less exclusively about my personal life and more about my interests and goals. I’d like to use this blog as a journal to document the various ways that I am trying to improve myself. I think that if the progress is interesting to me, it will be interesting to someone else too. That someone else is likely just Kristyn but I consider that a win!
This Blog’s History
I originally started writing this blog around 2007. Initially, I was blogging on Myspace and a friend of mine had moved over to WordPress. I was getting nervous about what would happen to my blog if “Myspace ever went away”. It turned out that I liked blogging more than I ever liked Myspace. I kept this blog up solidly until 2012 and then I did a photo project that ran this blog right into the ground. It was one of those “Here’s a picture of my face every day for 365 days” projects. I think I probably had ten days left to finish the project and I tapped myself out. From 2012 until recently (2016), I’ve been trying (and failing) to blog under a lot of different monikers. Nothing sticks because, for some reason, I’m all “Buberella or Bust”.
If you go back into my archives, you’ll see us go through a lot of growing pains. My wife, Kristyn, and I moved to Los Angeles for three years and those were tough but fun years. I really don’t know what kind of things lurk in my archives because I won’t go back and read them; at least not now. I need to be forward-thinking to get back into writing on this blog. Unless you find something HEINOUS, just please let me have my ignorant bliss. If you find something alarming back there, just gently let me know by commenting on the post. I’ll see it and either die of embarrassment or chortle at my own foolishness and move on.
I’ve included a list of my interests in no particular order. This is the type of stuff you can expect to read about from time to time. If you’re interested in this kind of stuff, we’re gonna be pals:
- LGBTQ Issues
- Listening to audiobook memoirs
- Reading graphic novels
