Guys, an album came out a week or so ago that has been really inspiring to me. It’s by a band called MEN and it’s political dance music. It’s lead by JD Samson who used to be in Le Tigre. It touches on themes of gay rights and what it’s like to be in your 30’s and not know what to do next. It is really hitting the spot for me right now and I just wanted to promote it because I want it to do well.
Kristyn got to interview the band a couple of weeks ago and I think it just came out really really well. Click here to read it. She also reviewed the album better than I can. Click here to read the review. Below I’m going to post the video they just came out with last week and some of my favorite songs. The album is called “Talk About Body” and I really think you should buy it. These people don’t have a huge industry machine behind them. They do have a publicist but most of what they’re doing is on their own and I think it’s important to give a voice to artists like this. They’ve been panned and I’m pissed off about it because I don’t think it’s fair. Male-oriented music sites like Pitchfork and NME don’t get it and kind of wrote it off as bad as if it’s a “fact” and not an “opinion” but honestly I haven’t been inspired by an album in a long time until I heard this. Give it a listen and keep an open mind. Read Kristyn’s articles and you’ll see what they’re about.
Here’s the video for Who Am I To Feel So Free. Watch until the end, it’s surprising haha.
